Microsoft announced on their blog that spellcheck and autocorrect in Notepad will begin rolling out to Windows Insiders. Starting in Notepad version 11.2402.18.0, Windows 11 users can enable the spell check and autocorrect features.

The Notepad will now highlight misspelled words and provide suggestions so that you can easily identify and correct mistakes. When autocorrect is enabled, it seamlessly corrects common typing errors as you type.

Enable Spell Check and Autocorrect in Notepad

On Windows 11, you can turn on the spell check and autocorrect features in the Notepad app by following the below steps.

Step 1: Click Start and type “Notepad” in the search box. From the search results, select the Notepad app to launch.

Step 2: In the Notepad, click the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner.

Step 3: Under the Spelling section, enable the “Spell check“. Additionally, you can turn on the spell check for each of the file formats including .txt, .md, .srt / .ass, .lrc, and .lic.

Step 4: Turn on the Autocorrect toggle switch to automatically correct the mistyped words.

Using the Autocorrect feature in Notepad app

After enabling the spell check and autocorrect features, Notepad will begin checking for spelling errors and correcting them automatically. Let me demonstrate how to use the autocorrect feature in Notepad.

Launch the Notepad app and type some content. In my case, I have added some text with some incorrect words. The Notepad spell check feature underlines the spelling mistakes in red.

To correct these words, click on the words to see suggested spellings.

Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Shift + F10 on the misspelled word to get the correct suggestions.

If a word is underlined in red, and you are certain that it is correct, right-click on it and select Spell Check > Ignore. To prevent Notepad from repeatedly highlighting the word as incorrect, right-click on the word and select Spelling > Add to Dictionary.
