In this tutorial, I will show you how to password protect Bitdefender settings. Bitdefender recommends that if you are not the only person with administrative rights to a certain machine, you password-protect your Bitdefender settings.
For many years, I have been using Bitdefender Total Security to provide complete protection for my PC. It is all-in-one software that protects my computer from malware and viruses while also securing my browsing.
When you have multiple PC users who are all administrators, anyone could introduce changes to the Bitdefender settings. For example, a user can open Bitdefender and turn off the cryptomining feature, turn on/off the dark mode, etc.
I am now going to show you the steps to turn on the password protection feature on Bitdefender Total Security.

Enable Password Protection in Bitdefender
To configure password protection for the Bitdefender settings:
- Launch the Bitdefender Total Security application on your computer.
- Click the Settings icon on the left sidebar of the Bitdefender interface.
- On the General tab, move the toggle for “Password Protection” to the right to enable the feature.
In the Password Protection box, enter the password twice. Bitdefender requires you to enter a password that is between 8 and 31 characters in length. I recommend entering a complex password for better security. Click on OK to save the changes.
Once you have set a password, anyone trying to change the Bitdefender settings will first have to provide the password. To avoid Bitdefender prompting you for the password multiple times, select the option “Do not show this message again during this session.”
Remove the Password Protection for Bitdefender
If you have already set a password for Bitdefender settings, and in case you don’t need it, you can remove the password protection with the following steps:
- Launch the Bitdefender application and click the Settings icon on the left sidebar.
- In the General tab, slide the toggle to the left to turn off the Password protection.
- Type the password, and then click OK.

Change the Bitdefender Password
You can easily modify the password that you have set for Bitdefender through the settings. This should be done if the password has been compromised or if you want to use a more complex password than the previous one.
To modify the existing password, launch the Bitdefender app and go to Settings. Now in the General tab, look for the Manage password setting and select Password Change. Authenticate with the password that you have configured for Bitdefender, and click OK.
Now enter the new password for Bitdefender twice and click OK. This is how you change the password for Bitdefender.
